Art Deco silver-plated wine bottle holder

Sold

This stylish silver-plated bottle holder or syphon stand was made by Mappin & Webb in the 1930s in the distinctive Art Deco style. The stepped rim is complemented by the cast, stepped handles and bands of concentric rings.

Art Deco was a popular design style in the 1920s and '30s characterised especially by sleek geometric or stylised forms. It represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. For that reason silverware for dining and entertaining were popular categories of goods to reflect the style of the time.
