George III Scottish sterling silver brandy warmer & cover

This lovely 18th-century sterling silver brandy warmer was made in Edinburgh in 1786 and is a large example with a particularly good heavy feel. The round bulbous body helps to distribute gentle heat evenly and release the full range of flavours and aromas of the spirit, and with a capacity of ¾ pint (425 ml), it is perfect for warming mulled wine too. It's quite unusual to feature a lift-off cover which is perfect to help in retaining the heat.
The wood handle and finial have been crafted from a fruitwood and insulate against the heat. They are not included in the weight shown.
The front of the pan is engraved with the family crest of a boar's head and the motto "Follow Me" for Campbell of Monzie (Fairbairn's). As well as applying to the Campbell family, the motto "Follow me!" is also strongly associated with the US Army Infantry, particularly the Infantry School at Fort Benning.
And of course, warm brandy is a treat on any cold evening year round, but this lovely piece comes into its own at Christmas.
