Interior Design

...

We work closely with interior designers from around the world, offering expert and candid advice to help source pieces that match the brief. Since most of our silverware is unique, what more would delight your most discerning clients. Of course, if you cannot find that perfect piece, we can always make it for you.

Repairs & Restoration

...

Repairs to antique silver or silver plate need to be done professionally and sympathetically, commensurate with the function, quality and value of the piece. We have some of the most experienced silversmiths who undertake anything from simple repairs to conservation and museum standard restoration.

If you have a piece in need of restoration, please contact us to discuss your requirements and we can advise the best way to have it repaired while maintaining its value.

Replating

...

Even top-quality silver-plated cutlery, trays and tableware in constant use may need a refresh from time to time. If the silver plate is thick enough, a professional polish will bring back the lustre and shine. If any of your pieces need replating, Langfords advises applying a minimum of ten microns of silver to hollowware and 20 microns to cutlery which ensures they are in tip-top condition and will not need replating for years. On request, Langfords will assess your pieces for condition and levels of silver plate and advise if any action is required.

All replating will be accompanied by a card guaranteeing the gauge of silver plate.

Engraving

...

Hand engraving gives the most elegant finish and brings depth and character to the silver. We offer a wide range of styles and finishes; traditional hand engraving, machine engraving and CAD engraving with the latest hi-tech machines. Modern laser engraving and photo-etching are also available.

  • Inscriptions & initials
  • Crests & coats-of-arms
  • Company logos
  • All languages eg Chinese, Russian, Hebrew
  • Facsimile engraving of your own handwriting or signature
  • Images copied from photographs
  • Freehand artwork

Quotations and guaranteed deadlines will be given prior to any work being undertaken. If, for any reason, your piece is unsuitable for engraving or etching we have alternative ideas to enable you to personalise your gifts. For instance: wood or stone plinths with silver bands are perfect for trophies that require annual winners’ names and adds prestige to the award.

Contact us and we will be happy to give you advice.

Lacquering

...

Polished silver is sometimes lacquered to protect against tarnish and prevent over-polishing. Large and intricately detailed decorative pieces, and where traditional cleaning methods may be too harsh, lend themselves to being lacquered. Our modern, durable lacquer is the most up-to-date product available. Unlike the old processes, it will not yellow over time, it does not flake off and, if scratched, will only discolour on that specific area. The air and its tarnishing effect will not spread under the lacquer surface and the piece will look pristine for many years.

Wedding Lists

...

We’ve been helping couples create their perfect wedding lists for more than 30 years, often centred around a practical and beautiful selection of timeless tableware to set the couple up for life. With our vast array of antique and new silver you can build a list of individual pieces that won’t be seen anywhere else, will last a lifetime and know that they are unique. We can also offer a large range of complementary china and crystal from the most prestigious manufacturers.

Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Cutlery Matching

...

If you are missing pieces from your silver flatware or cutlery set, Langfords has an extensive stock of antique flatware patterns spanning more than 200 years. We also produce new cutlery in practically every pattern made in the UK, France, Italy and Germany.

To help us match your silver cutlery as perfectly as possible it is always best to provide sample pieces but we can work with good clear photographs, accurate sizing and details of the hallmarks.

Cutlery Cases & Canteens

...

We have a range of antique and vintage oak, walnut or mahogany cutlery canteens in a variety of styles that we refurbish. The interiors are refitted with tarnish-proof fabric to accommodate any cutlery set whether new or antique.

Alternatively, we have employed English cabinet makers for more than 40 years who make bespoke cutlery cases in the style and size of your choosing. Our bespoke cases are made from sustainably-sourced seasoned wood, or composite materials, that will withstand reasonable temperature and moisture changes without shrinking or warping.

Silverware for Hire

...

Langfords has a history of supplying the film industry with props and expertise for TV and film productions. Our grandfather had a long association with Sir Alexander Korda’s London film studios in the 1930s and 1940s, and more recently, our silverware has featured in productions for BBC Drama and Walt Disney Pictures.

Our entire range is available for long or short-term hire for film and TV productions, photoshoots, property styling and more. Adam and Joel will advise on the appropriate pieces, usage and placement of silverware for the context and period.

Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
