Rare pair of antique Victorian silver-gilt ice tongs with bird-claw grips and scissor handle, made by one of the best cutlery silversmiths of the Victorian era. Due to the scarcity of household ice in the 19th century, it was unusual to have tongs for this purpose and probably only in the upper class households. This is a lovely example of scissor-action, silver-gilt ice tongs with nicely modelled detail and a perfect working action.
