Silver pint beer tankard fashioned in the style of the 1690s with a cover secured with a scrolling thumbpiece, and body mounted on a spreading circular base, providing more stability.

A tankard is distinguished from a mug by having a hinged cover. It is believed this feature was to keep flies or other insects and contaminants falling from thatched roofs and dropping into the beer.
