An elegant pair of 1st quality (.950 standard) antigue silver-gilt and cut crystal wine jugs. The hand blown bodies are cut with fine flutes and engraved with delicate floral and leaf garlands. The gilded silver mounts are decorated with classic Empire style motifs including acanthus and laurel leaves, medallions and a lattice leaf design on the handles. A delicate silver-gilt bead decoration surrounds the bases and feet of the jugs.

The Empire style was originally an early-nineteenth-century design movement in architecture, furniture, other decorative arts, and the visual arts, representing the second phase of Neoclassicism. It promoted the greatness of the French Empire and was mostly inspired by ancient Rome and Egypt. Gilded ornaments were common and included Roman, Egyptian and militaristic motifs.
