A silver milk jug, sugar bowl and sugar tongs in the Aesthetic style, all neatly fitted in their original case. The set has Thread pattern panels showing their original gilding.
Aestheticism was fashionable from 1870 to 1900 and was an approach to life based on the philosophy of art for art's sake. It emphasised the importance of art above everything else and the pleasure to be found in beautiful things and, although it was a complex mixture of styles, it drew its main inspiration from classical and Japanese art.
