Pair Victorian silver-gilt salt cellars

Pair Victorian silver-gilt salt cellars

Sold

This beautiful pair of antique silver-gilt salt cellars has an elegant frosted finish. The hand-engraved fern or maidenhair leaf decoration, a popular Victorian decorative motif, is cut through the gilding to expose the silver underneath giving a wonderful contrast against the gold-plated surface.

Since salt does not have a corrosive effect on gold, the benefit of the gilded interior of these salt cellars means the silver beneath is protected.
