An extremely rare and rather wonderful antique silver cigar lighter in the form of a stalking fox. This excellent piece is cast in sterling silver and is fully hand-chased to give a realistic and lifelike appearance while Mr Fox is mounted on a ground-effect base.
This rarity is hallmarked on the base and, since the head is removable to allow the body to be filled with lighter fluid, it bears a matching set of part marks within one of the ears.
English silver models of animals are rarely found until the middle of the 20th century so it is rather special to find such a fine Victorian example.
