Pair Arts & Crafts style hammered silver candlesticks

Pair Arts & Crafts style hammered silver candlesticks

Sold

These stylish hammered silver candlesticks are in the Arts & Crafts style and made by renowned Scottish silversmiths, Hamilton & Inches in Edinburgh. Named after the architect who designed the thistle chapel within St Giles Cathedral, they are from the Lorimer collection and inspired by ancient Scottish church plate.

Key to the design is the pierced sphere or knop which features on each item and links the collection together. The hand-hammered and cast band of decoration are both typical of the Arts & Crafts movement; one which supported craftsmanship that stressed the inherent beauty of the material, the importance of nature as inspiration, and the value of simplicity, utility and beauty.
