Modern punch ladle with an elegant turned wood handle and round silver bowl decorated with a bead pattern edge in the 18th century style.

Although the origins of the ladle are unclear, what is known is that the basic design seen today goes back to Roman times; the unique design of the ladle with its long, thin handle and cup-like spoon first appeared more than two thousand years ago. The production of silver flatware made in England from as early as the 13th century, silver ladles were not widespread until the mid-18th century.
