Art Deco style cut glass & sterling silver preserve jar
9099
Square Art Deco cut glass jam or preserve jar with sterling silver cover and spoon. Made during WWII the body of the jam jar is hand cut with diamond and hobnail cut panels, while the stepped silver cover is fitted with a faux ivory finial; classic Art Deco design motifs. The jar's original silver jam spoon was made in 1939.
Art Deco design, short for Arts Décoratifs, is characterised by rich colours, bold geometry, and decadent detail work. Having reached the height of its popularity in the 1920s, '30s and '40s, the style still brings in glamour, luxury, and order with symmetrical designs in exuberant shapes.
