Fine pair of silver candlesticks from the Art Deco era; probably ecclesiastical and made for a church altar. The domed bases and panelled stems with round knops, are classic Art Deco design motifs. The bases are filled to ensure they are stable and the candle holders unscrew so that they and the wax catchers can be easily cleaned.

Art Deco, short for Arts Décoratifs, was a style of visual arts, architecture and product design that first appeared in Paris in the 1910s and flourished in the United States and Europe during the 1920s to early 1930s. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. The designs featured rare and expensive materials, such as ebony and ivory, and exquisite craftsmanship.
