Five-bar silver toast rack in Christopher Dresser style
Five-bar silver toast rack in Christopher Dresser style
9105
This is a charming antique Edwardian Arts & Crafts style silver toast rack very much in the design and manner of Dr Christopher Dresser. The five bars and frame, as well as the raised handle, feature and are joined by distinctive ball mounts, while the frame has graduated partitions and is mounted on bun supports.
Dresser was a Scottish designer and design theorist, now widely known as one of the first and most important independent designers. Born early 19th century & died early 20th. He was a pivotal figure in the Aesthetic movement and a major contributor to the allied Anglo-Japanese or Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style), both of which originated in England and had long-lasting international influence.
Our suggestion for a modern-day, repurposing, alternative use, is for holding letters or mobile phones.
