This wonderful sterling silver statue of Saint George slaying the dragon was made in Germany and bears import hallmarks for London, 1927. It was probably made for the English market by Neresheimer & Co, a noteworthy and prolific silver manufacturer in Hanau, Germany. A large number of Hanau silversmiths produced silver objects for export to England and the USA.

The cast figures of St George in full armour on his rearing horse, with the writhing dragon below, are beautifully modelled and heavily cast in sterling silver. The figures are mounted on a quatrefoil base with cast openwork decoration and inset with four semi-precious cabochon stones.
