Set of hand-forged King's Husk sterling silver cutlery made by one of the few female silversmiths, Mary Chawner, in the early Victorian era. In a sign of superior quality, this silver cutlery service is double-struck, meaning the pattern appears on both sides of each piece, requiring a heavier gauge of silver. All pieces are in tip-top condition with strong bowls and tines and crisply defined patterns.

The Chawners dominated the production of flatware in the middle years of the 19th century, making them an interesting and important family.

King's Husk is a variant of the ever popular King's pattern, with the most obvious difference being the omission of the central honeysuckle decoration on the stem. A husk shell replaces the concave shell of King's pattern and there is no shell on the back. King's Husk was first produced in the Regency era (1811-1820) and is still made today.

The full canteen comprises:

12 table forks
12 dessert forks
12 table soup spoons (1 x London 1826;
1 x Lias Bros 1830)
12 dessert spoons (6 x 1857)
12 teaspoons (6 x Wm Chawner II 1833)
2 sauce ladles
1 fish slice (1837)
1 basting-large serving spoon (Wm Chawner II 1832)
1 soup ladle (1837)

12 table knives (C J Vander 1975)
12 dessert knives (C J Vander 1975)

Antique knives rarely survive. These modern silver knives were made by C J Vander and are fitted with stainless steel blades making them suitable for putting in the dishwasher. C J Vander was known for producing high-quality flatware, making many of the traditional patterns by hand.

All pieces are presented in a fitted mahogany canteen.
