Large Victorian silver Monteith bowl

A hugely impressive silver punch bowl in the Monteith style. The round body is bellied with inverted fluting and two cast lion mask handles. The traditional scalloped rim flares slightly out and has a cast and applied border leaves, shells and scrolls. There is a vacant round cartouche for engraving on either side of the bowl, both surrounded by scrolls and stylised acanthus leaves.
This bowl could be used as a planter or to hold six Champagne or wine bottles in iced water.
