George III basketweave silver snuff box

Delightful antique silver snuff box decorated with an outer skin resembling a basketweave, and a plain gilded interior. The box is in fine and original condition notwithstanding its age.

Snuffboxes were used to carry snuff, a mixture of ground tobacco and scented oils, and were very popular in the 18th century when snuff taking was fashionable.

The maker's mark GH is unknown.
