A handmade late Victorian oblong box of bombe form with cut corners and two hinged leaf and scroll handles. The flat-topped hinged lid is secured with a lock and key.

The chest was retailed by Watherston & Son of Pall Mall, London. Although the firm was primarily known for making fine jewels and gold chains, by 1890 they were also listed as silversmiths and were known to have retailed silverware from many other silversmiths.
