This beautifully sculpted silver water jug was made entirely by hand
by one of the 20th century's most highly regarded silversmiths, Leslie Durbin. The hammered finish is a desirable characteristic of this piece and the piece shows off the clean flowing lines for which Durbin was known. With a satisfyingly heavy feel and a robust tactile handle, using this stylish jug is a pleasure.

It is engraved with the following inscription.

GLYN, MILLS & CO.

Leslie Durbin (1913-2005) studied at Central School of Arts & Crafts and was apprenticed to Omar Ramsden between 1929 to 1938. He held all The Goldsmith's Company's scholarships and it was for his work on the Stalingrad Sword, given by Churchill to Stalin, in the service of the King in 1943 that he was made an MRVO. Durbin was made a CBE in 1976 and he designed The Queen's head for the Royal Jubilee commemorative assay mark and reverse of £1 coins in the 1980s.
