An authentic 1920s silver-plated novelty cocktail shaker with hardwood neck which is the handle, in the form of a champagne bottle. The handle twists off to reveal the ice hooks and the strainer. The cork also unscrews to allow the cocktail to be poured.

Champagne became enormously popular in the closing years of the 19th century after being adopted by the British in its dry (brut) sparkling form. Numerous Champagne accessories were devised, particularly by the British, and among the most delightful and spectacular are champagne decanters formed to look like the Champagne bottle where the foil has been replaced by silver and the green glass with clear.

From 1895 William Suckling specialised in a very large range of silver-plated holloware marketed under the trade names Burmese Regis Plate, Kingsway Plate and Platine Metal.
