Fine George III silver gilt cup and cover, once the property of the Abel-Smith banking family of Hertfordshire. The Abel-Smiths were also members of the British royal family and their crest is described as: Upon a wreath of colours, an elephant head erased or, eared gules and charged on the neck with three fleur se lys azure. There is a ducal coronet above the elephant's head.

The cup was later purchased by members of the New York Yacht Club in 1928 and presented to Vincent Astor in appreciation of his services as commodore from 1928 to 1930.

The cup is of a superior gauge of silver and shows the original fire gilding which is in excellent condition. The body, base and cover are richly adorned with panels of floral work and foliage while the finial and handles exhibit finely detailed cast and applied acanthus leaves.

All our trophies can be supplied with a bespoke wooden plinth and silver band or plaque for recording names of winners. For further information or a quotation, please get in touch.
