This good quality George III silver tea urn has beautiful bright cut engraved decoration and elegant cast legs capped with acanthus leaf decorations. Fully operational, this urn has its original spirit burner and functioning spout. Inside are the original hallmarked fittings for holding a hot iron rod to keep the water warm if the burner is not being used.

Bright cut decoration was most popular from the 1790s to the early 1800s. The edges of each piece are decorated with facets cut into the surface of the silver at different angles so that light is reflected at various angles and the decoration appears to be sparkling - hence the name
bright cut.

Peter and Ann Bateman were members of the prominent family of silversmiths; one of the most distinguished families of London silversmiths of the time.
