Handmade by artist and silversmith, Anastasse Georgiou for Mappin & Webb, this fabulous handmade baluster form silver and gilt vase in a Japanese-inspired design of gilded repoussé carp swimming among reeds against a chased and textured waterscape.
Every element of the vase is hand worked, featuring an abundant and profusely hand-chased waterscape incorporating hand-chased carp in high relief swimming through naturalistically embossed and chased reeds and other aquatic flora among rocks in the sea or riverbed. Some carp are partially highlighted in yellow and rose gold, and the interior base features a pair of gilded repoussé and hand chased swimming carp.
Provenance: purchased in Mappin & Webb, London, and stated by the retailer that this vase is one of only three produced with another in, or previously in, the collection of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The vase is fitted with its original presentation case and accompanied by a 2003-04 Mappin & Webb catalogue in which it is illustrated, the page bearing a signature which is possibly that of the silversmith.
