Pair of George II cast sterling silver candlesticks
Pair of George II cast sterling silver candlesticks
9793
In superb condition, this is a fine pair of George II heavy-gauge cast sterling silver candlesticks with shaped square bases and well and knopped stems. They were made by the famous Huguenot silversmith Augustine Courtauld, noted for producing particularly high-quality cast silver candlesticks during the mid 18th century..
Unlike earlier candlesticks made from lighter sheet silver, George II candlesticks were cast from a heavier gauge of solid silver, whose construction made them more durable and gives them a substantial weight. Note that these silver candlesticks are not filled; the weight is entirely sterling silver.
