This is a large antique Austrian Secessionist period silver candelabrum by Emil Kadzik. The domed base with its central column and fins, five stems and stylised tulip-shaped flower candleholders, personify this era of design.

The Vienna Secession was formed in 1897 by a group of Austrian artists, painters, sculptors, architects and silver workers, including Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann. The artists' intent was to break free from classical traditions in fine art with their avant-garde approach which evolved to encompass applied arts and interior design as well. Unlike other movements, there is not a single style that unites their work, as they strove to explore all possibilities of art outside the confines of academic tradition.
