Pair of 4-branch 4-light cast silver-gilt candelabra in 18th century Paul de Lamerie style
Magnificent pair of cast, hand-chased, gilded solid silver four-branch, four-light candelabra, recreating a design from the early part of the 18th century, by the royal silversmith Paul de Lamerie. These are of substantial weight and heavily gilded.
The detachable branch section with four leaf scroll arms issuing from below a knop with an octagonal finial, is decorated with spiral leaves and scrolls on a stippled ground, the tapering four sided stems with overhanging shell corners, incurved tapering sides with panels of overlapping graduated scales, on the lower knop there are flower heads and plain bosses, all above a dome with shaped band of alternating spiral leaves and scales, rising from an octagonal base, the top engraved with diaper panels, the sides with shells, foliate scrolls and scales.
Given the height of these silver-gilt candelabra, when filled with eight candles they cast plenty of warm light across the dining table or sideboard.
