Sterling silver biscuit box with lion-mask ring handles
Sterling silver biscuit box with lion-mask ring handles
Silver biscuit box of tapering cylindrical form, fitted with a hinged conical cover, hand chased around the edge with panels of graduated, stepped fluting, and surmounted by a pineapple-shaped finial; a symbol of hospitality. The silver body is fitted with two ring handles affixed with cast lion masks.
Although perfect for storing biscuits, the size of this silver box would make it useful to hold ice cubes or anything else you can think of.
The piece has been hallmarked by the Chester assay office with the special hallmark commemorating the silver jubilee of King George V on 6 May 1935 marking his 25 years on the throne.
