A large, wonderful and exuberant example of a commemorative Royal Doulton water jug celebrating Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee as queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and empress of India.

Based on a 18th century beer jug, the pottery jug's form is bulbous and the rim has an applied silver mount, applied by Elkington & Co. The inscriptions read: "DEI GRATIA, VICTORIA, QUEEN & EMPRESS" and "SHE WROUGHT HER PEOPLE LASTING GOOD".

Royal Doulton's first pottery was established by John Doulton in the Lambeth area of London in 1815. The title
Royal was bestowed to on the firm by King Edward VII when he came to the throne in 1901.
