Reflecting style motifs typical of mid-century design, this is an excellent, classic set of limited-edition, hand-hammered modernist silver wine goblets with nicely gilded interiors. The cast stems are decorated with a swirling loop design set against a matt background and they are numbered 5-10 from a limited edition of 75. These are silver goblets that clearly echo the mid-century designs of Gerald Benney and Stuart Devlin in the 1960s.

The Mid-Century Modern movement evolved after the end of World War II, largely influenced by Scandinavian design. It was a period of creativity in silver design, styles and design cues that were characterised by simplicity and natural shapes that continued until the late 1970s. George Grant was apprenticed to Leslie Durbin and also worked for Michael Murray before setting up business on his own in 1959.
