Glorious antique three-piece parcel-gilt bachelor tea set from the high-Victorian era. Using a diamond cutter, each piece is delicately hand engraved through the gold surface to reveal the silver beneath and illuminating the fern decorations surrounding the bodies of each piece. Radiating a sparkling finish, the bodies feature hand-punched vertical bead pattern sections.

Parcel-gilt (partial gilt) objects are gilded over part of their surface, so decorative patterns or images are made by featuring a combination of gilt and silver areas. An alternative term for silver-gilt is the French word vermeil which came into use in English in the 19th century but mostly in American English.

The teapot pours perfectly. Its silver-gilt finial is detachable and the pot's handle is fitted with insulators to prevent it getting hot.

The bachelor tea set is a charming set of silverware, being simply a smaller version of a full-size tea set, and intended for one person. Occasionally mistaken as part of a child's tea service, they are deliberately petite and were created long before the advent of the tea bag!The capacity of this bachelor teapot is two to three cups of tea.

This exquisite silver-gilt tea set is presented in its original velvet-lined leather presentation case.

The height given is for the teapot and the weight includes all three pieces of the set.

Note: Under the rules of the UK government's Ivory Act 2018, this silver tea set qualifies for an ivory exemption certificate.  If required, the ivory parts may be replicated and replaced with an ivory substitute at no additional cost.
