The hippopotamus features prominently in ancient Egyptian, African and even Greek art and myths. But it is the hippo's rotund barrel frame which is often used for humorous effect in more recent popular culture.

This stocky silver hippopotamus with its mouth open is cast in heavy gauge sterling silver using the traditional, centuries-old technique of lost wax casting where molten silver is poured into a mould that has been created by means of a wax model. Once the silver has solidified, the wax model is melted and drained away. Each of our models is then individually hand chased to produce the lifelike effect seen in the finished piece.

For a truly personal model, we can work from photographs to capture the true likeness of your own pet or favourite animal cast in sterling silver. Contact us for more details.
