Classic 8¾" silver armada dish - a shallow circular bowl with flared rim and raised centre.
In 1588, after the defeat of the Spanish Armada, a quantity of silver captured from the Spanish was melted down and made into a service of dinner plates for Sir Christopher Harris. This set became known as The Armada Service.
The Harris family were noted Royalists, and to prevent the set from falling into the hands of Cromwell's army during the English Civil War in the 17th century, it was buried on their estate. The service remained hidden until the end of the 19th century, when it was re-discovered and restored by one of London's leading silversmiths.
This Armada dish is a faithful copy of that original service, made in sterling silver, and bearing the staggered hallmarks that were distinctive of the period.
Armada dishes come in many sizes, from 3" to 16" so if you do not see the size here that you require please contact us and we will find the right piece for you.
