Giant Britannia silver basting spoon
Giant Britannia silver basting spoon
Made to order, this giant hand forged Britannia standard (.958) silver basting spoon made from a single ingot by our specialist spoon and fork silversmith.
The making of a spoon this size is both exacting and strenuous, and takes many weeks to complete. The hand forging process is akin to the work carried out by a farrier, but far more exacting.
The silver ingot has to be heated to extreme temperatures, hammered then 'quenched' in water. Initially, the ingot is stretched into the basic form of the spoon, then the bowl is 'sunk' (beaten) into a pre-formed bowl-shaped steel die. This process is repeated numerous times.
Then, filing, shaping, polishing and hallmarking are the final stages to complete the process.
This huge silver spoon is made to order. A matching fork too. Please contact us for more details.
