One-maker set of hand-forged Rattail sterling silver cutlery with all pieces made in London by George Jackson & David Fullerton who were known for the fine quality of their cutlery. They produced some of the heaviest and finest quality silver cutlery of the period and in most of the traditional patterns.

Rattail is the oldest of the English designs dating from the early 1700s with the distinctive rat tail on the backs of the spoon bowls and forks. This feature developed in an age when craftsmen made spoons in two pieces joining the bowl and the handle together by means of soldering using a tapered tail as additional strength to the joint. This design also features a prominent rib down the front of the handle and continues to be a popular design to the present day.

This set of Rattail cutlery is in wonderful condition and comprises:

12 table forks
12 dessert forks
12 tablespoons
12 dessert spoons
12 teaspoons
6 gilded egg spoons
2 gravy ladles
1 butter server
1 sugar sifting ladle
4 gilded salt spoons
1 sugar shovel
1 tea caddy spoon

Since antique knives rarely survive, this cutlery set
is completed with 12 pairs of heavy-quality modern knives with silver handles and stainless steel blades, making them suitable for putting in the dishwasher. The Rattail (shown), Plain Pistol, Pointed Pistol and Spire pattern knife handles would all complement the set.
