Hand-forged antique Fiddle Thread & Shell silver cutlery for 12
2240
Victorian hand-forged silver cutlery service for 12 settings in the Fiddle Thread & Shell design. It is a charming design based on the fiddle shape with thread borders and shell motif, while shells appear on the reverse head and heel. This is a heavy quality set is in superb condition with very little wear to the pattern or hallmarks. The pattern gained popularity in colonial America from about 1810 and is still very popular today.
All pieces made by Robert Wallis of London in 1839 (except where shown) and the set comprises:
24 table forks
12 dessert forks (2 x William Chawner, 1825)
18 table soup spoons
12 dessert spoons (1 x odd)
12 teaspoons (Richard Britton, 1834)
2 basting spoons
1 fish slice
1 gravy ladle
1 sugar sifter
Since antique knives rarely survive, this service includes 12 pairs of modern table and dessert knives, with stainless steel blades making them safe to go in the dishwasher. We would recommend Thread & Shell, Reed & Shell or Lamerie Pistol pattern knives to complement the service.
