Pair of cast sterling silver candelabra

Pair of cast sterling silver candelabra

Sold

Pair of versatile, two-branch, three-light, cast* solid silver candelabra, created in an English style first made popular during the early 1760s.

The branches are detachable and can be mounted one upon the other to create a single five-light candelabrum whose height casts more light across the table. The nozzles and wax pans are also removable making cleaning a much easier task. Removing the candelabra arms leaves a pair of elegant candlesticks for more intimate dining.

The maximum height and span are given. As a pair of candelabra the heights are 400mm (15¾") and as single candlesticks they are 235mm (9¼").

* Cast candle sticks and candelabra represent the the most substantial and enduring construction; Most silver lighting made during the past three centuries are either spun or stamped silver, then filled with pitch or plaster to give them strength and weight. These will be much thinner than items of cast construction.
