Pair antique 5-light corinthian column silver candelabra

Pair antique 5-light corinthian column silver candelabra

Sold

Antique Edwardian five-light, four-branch silver Corinthian column candelabra featuring all the classical design cues with square stepped bases and gadroon pattern edging, fluted stems and acanthus leaf capitals. These are both compact and elegant, with finely detailed capitals and sharp definition on the Corinthian columns. This versatile pair can also be reconfigured to become a pair of three lights, or a pair of single candlesticks. This is achieved by removing sections of the branches by unscrewing the central light fixtures.

The Corinthian column is almost always fluted and is the most ornate, slender and sleek of the three Greek architectural orders; the other two being Ionic and Doric. Corinthian column silver candlesticks are distinguished by a decorative, bell-shaped capital with volutes, two rows of acanthus leaves and an elaborate cornice.
