Pair of top quality cast and handmade five-light, four-branch silver candelabra in the neoclassical style reminiscent of the 1790s. The candelabra are made in a very heavy gauge of silver and are self-supporting in that they are not filled and weighted as is usual with these pieces.

The candleholders are detachable for easy cleaning, as are the bobeche or wax drips. The branches can be removed and the bases used as a pair of candlesticks, making them even more versatile. The central candleholders are fitted with removable flame extinguishers.

Neoclassicism is the 18th and 19th century movement that developed in Europe as a reaction to the excesses of Baroque and Rococo. The movement sought to return to the classical beauty and magnificence of the Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire and based on simplicity and symmetry. Classical motifs included ribbon-tied festoons, palm leaves, swags and hanging garlands. Urns and vase shapes all featured, as did Corinthian, Ionic and Doric columns.
