A charming miniature bowl in the style of an 18th century Monteith bowl with hinged drop handles and mounted on an ebonised plinth. Off its base, the silver bowl is 5¼" (80mm) tall.

A Monteith is a vessel with notched scalloped rims and originally used to cool drinking glasses. It became popular during the last two decades of the seventeenth century and became the earliest form of punch bowl. It derives its name after a fashionable gentleman in the late 17th century, named Monteith or Monteigh, who known for wearing an unusual scalloped edge coat.
