This is a pair of antique silver two-branch, three-light candelabra that can be converted to make a single five-light candelabrum or used as a pair of candlesticks without the branches. The spiralling floral strands, garlands, swags around the bases, French Gadroon pattern decoration, acanthus leaf borders and mounts further enhance the classic Corinthian column style.

The engraved motto reads:
mitis et fortis' which translates to gentle and brave, and the family coat of arms is for the Higginbotham Wybrants.

Since this pair of candelabra is tall, when fitted with 14" (360mm) tapering candles, they will provide a good deal of illumination across the table without the flames interfering with the guests' line of sight.

The Corinthian column is almost always fluted and is the most ornate, slender and sleek of the three Greek architectural orders, the other two being Ionic and Doric. Corinthian column silver candlesticks are distinguished by a decorative, bell-shaped capital with volutes, two rows of acanthus leaves and an elaborate cornice.
