20th century sterling silver water jug in a classic 18th century style. This pleasing bellied form was first made popular in the early 1700s and was originally made to hold and serve beer, given that beer was much safer to drink than water at that time!

The jug sits on a round stepped base and the beak spout, decorated with two silver pips, pours perfectly. The strong handle features the traditional thumbpiece and a charming heart-shaped shield finial at the base.
