A fine quality George IV silver-gilt cup and cover with a cast and applied scene of a flat race. The cup is campana-shaped with chased fluting and stylised acanthus leaf motifs and has reeded handles. The lid is edged with an egg and dart border and has a grape and vine finial.
The back of the cup is engraved:

gagnée par le cheval Pan appartenant à Monsieur Eugène Constant, monté par R. Poincelet
This was The Goodwood Cup for 1951 and was won by Pan, ridden by Roger Poincelet - considered one of the finest French jockeys of all time - trained by Etienne Pollet and owned by Eugène Constant.
