The Romans are credited with introducing brown hares to Britain more than 2,000 years ago and hare mythology has fascinated us for centuries. In Britain, they abound Norfolk. "Mad as a March hare" is a common British English phrase, based on popular belief about hares' behaviour at the beginning of the long breeding season, which lasts from February to September.
The Langfords' model hare is cast in heavy-gauge sterling silver using the traditional, centuries-old technique of lost wax casting where molten silver is poured into a mould that has been created by means of a wax model. Once the silver has solidified, the wax model is melted and drained away. Each model is then individually hand-chased to produce the lifelike effect seen in the finished piece.
