Pair George III silver wine coasters

Pair George III silver wine coasters

Sold

Pretty pair of George III silver bottle coasters or wine coasters, circular in form with brightcut engraving above a band of pierced decoration. These coasters have their original wooden bases and each is engraved with a monogrammed S.

Brightcut decoration was most popular from the 1790s to the early 1800s and silver was decorated with facets cut into the surface of the silver at different angles so that light is reflected at various angles and the decoration appears to be sparkling - hence the term brightcut.
