Pair George III silver candlesticks

Pair George III silver candlesticks

Sold

Exceptionally fine pair of antique George III silver candlesticks. Each candlestick has a round sunken well base with beaded border and a band of leaf decoration. The tapering stems are fluted and feature a band of neoclassical-style leaf and flower detail while the vase-shaped capitals are similarly fluted with sections of acanthus leaf decoration. Each candlestick has its original hallmarked, bead pattern nozzle.

This fine pair was made by the celebrated 18th century silver candlestick maker John Schofield who was known for producing very heavy quality examples that did not require internal loading to provide stability.
