Set six silver pint mugs
Set six silver pint mugs
6934
A most impressive set of six silver pint mugs, each numbered from one to six. The mugs are of bellied form whose the scroll handles are decorated with leaf and bead thumb grips; a design taken from the early 18th century. A classic!
This set of silver mugs was made in 1935 and bear the silver jubilee hallmark in recognition of King George V's 25th anniversary as king of the United Kingdom. It was the first ever silver jubilee celebration of any British monarch in history.
In the mid-18th century, mugs with a tulip shape or a U-shaped body were introduced. Although many local or regional varieties of mug were made in the 19th century, a popular shape emerged and was variously known as the pear, belly or bulbous form and more mugs of this shape were made than of any other.
