Set of hand-forged Fiddle silver cutlery for 12

Fine Victorian hand-forged silver cutlery set for 12 settings in the Fiddle pattern and made by George Adams between 1840 and 1870. George Adams is recognised as one of the finest cutlery makers in the 19th century.

Usually known as Plain Fiddle, because of the huge number of derivatives, its name springs from the fiddle-shaped handle and must rate as one of the major and lasting designs for flatware. In fact, the earliest example can be found among Roman silver in the British Museum, although its production in England in the mid 18th century stemmed from France where it was the most popular pattern.

Since antique knives rarely survive, the service includes 12 pairs of modern Fiddle pattern silver table and dessert knives with stainless steel blades making them dishwasher safe.
