Large and imposing antique oval silver bowl with an openwork lattice pattern body, applied, cast and finely detailed laurel garlands held in place with ribbons. Both handles and supports are decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves and the oval shields at either end are decorated in high relief with intricate and profuse clusters of flowers.

There is a shield on either side of the bowl; one engraved with the arms of the Hales family and the other, The Worshipful Company of Drapers of the City of London.

The engraved inscription on the base reads:

Presented by the Worshipful Company of Drapers
to William Hales, Esq
Who served the Office of Master
in the Year 1895
