A fine set of hand-forged, sterling silver bead pattern cutlery in its original wooden canteen. All pieces were made by the premier silver cutlery maker,George Adams, between 1861 and 1881, and are in excellent condition.

George Adams participated in the 1851 Great Exhibition and the 1862 International Exhibition. His pattern book circa 1875 is the reference for naming many of the patterns manufactured in the Victorian era.

It was Hester Bateman in the 1780s, the pre-eminent English lady silversmith, who introduced the simple beaded border on the Old English shape creating a neoclassical style that reflects the popularity of bead jewellery at the time, and the pattern's popularity carried on into the nineteenth century.

The set is presented in a three-drawer wooden canteen and comprises:

12 table forks
12 dessert forks
12 tablespoons
12 dessert spoons
12 teaspoons
1 pair fish servers
1 soup ladle
2 salt ladles
2 gravy ladles
1 basting spoon

Antique knives rarely survive, so this set of cutlery includes 12 modern table knives and 12 modern dessert knives with bead pattern handles and stainless steel blades, meaning they are dishwasher safe.
